Columbus-Stonewall Columbus and the Human Rights Campaign has announced displaying of the photo exhibit Love Makes a Family: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People and Their Families, at the Stonewall Community Center throughout the month of December.
The exhibit opens in conjunction with the Short North's annual Holiday Hop on Saturday, December 4. Love Makes a Family is a photo and text ehibit on nationwide tour. The Stonewall Community Center, located at 1160 N. High at the corner of 4th and
"A family is a bunch of people, or not so many, who love each other," explains sevenyear old Liza, who has two moms, Stacey and Amy. Liza's family is one of twenty families represented in the exhibit.
Photographs by Gigi Kaesar of Amherst, Mass., depict a variety of families of all races with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender moms, dads, grandparents, and youth. Accompanying each photograph is text edited from in-depth interviews with

The Holiday Hop sponsored by the Short North Business Association, highlights the retail shops, restaurants, organizations, and galleries located on High Street between Goodale and 5th Avenuc. This year's Holiday Hop will be full of entertainment, celebration, and fun for the whole family.
Love Makes a Family is being brought to Columbus by Stonewall Columbus and the Human Rights Campaign and they are pleased to offer this display of love and family in time for the holidays. Everyone is encouraged to start or end at the center, get warm refreshments (cocoa and coffee), and enjoy the festivities throughout the Short North, while getting to see one of the most respected exhibits touring the country.
families.
Currently, multiple copies of the exhibit are traveling under the auspices of Family Diversity Projects of Amherst, Mass., a non-profit organization formed by
Kaeser and the exhibit's interviewer, Peggy Gillespie. Love Makes a Family was the subject of major controversy in the Amherst school district. The school system, the principals, and the superintendent were sued by five families who claimed the exhibit would be harmful to their children.
The case was taken to federal court in Springfield, Mass. in April, 1996 where the judge decided in favor of allowing the exhibit to be shown in the local elementary schools. It was used by teachers to help educate students about diversity and acceptance of all kinds of people and family structures.
